Human Rights Centre, University of Essex

The Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex is an interdisciplinary centre for research, publication, and teaching. The Trust’s grant supported a conference in Amsterdam regarding a new General Comment on Article 19 of the ICCPR (which guarantees free expression), which gathered experts and activists to debate the changing nature of the media, the adequacy of current international standards to address those challenges, and specific recommendations for how the UN’s current approaches should be modified.
