Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa

The Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa (IHRDA) is a pan-African organisation seeking to protect and promote human rights through the effective use of the African human rights system. It engages in strategic litigation using the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, and sub-regional mechanisms. It also provides training for local lawyers and human rights defenders in Africa on engaging with the African human rights system. IHRDA makes available jurisprudence and other critical information on the African human rights system through online and print resources. It is also engaged in several initiatives towards strengthening the institutional efficacy of African human rights bodies.
