Torture and Death Penalty: Current Grantees
We support prevention work focusing on criminalising torture and increasing the transparency of places of detention. Grantees provide legal representation and expert legal advice to Guantanamo detainees, and to lawyers fighting death penalty cases around the world. We have supported the care of victims of torture in a variety of settings. We support documentation and litigation work aimed at bringing perpetrators of torture to justice. Within the Miscellaneous Fund we currently fund the ACLU and have previously funded Human Rights Watch, both organisations that have focused strongly on American torture in terms of documentation and the public debate.
