Religious Fundamentalism: Current Grantees
There are increasingly conservative and patriarchal interpretations of religious, cultural and traditional norms in many parts of the world today leading to discriminatory practices and laws. SRT supports organizations contesting fundamentalism and the political use of religion as a justification for restrictions on women and girls. Grantees analyse religious texts, the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and other international human rights instruments. They campaign for reform of family law, oppose Shari’a law, and educate religious and non-religious leaders, activists and citizens on progressive interpretations of religious and customary law which do not violate the rights of women and girls.
