Side by Side LGBT International Film Festival uses film to establish free open cultural spaces in which homosexual and transgendered people are able to affirm and question their identities, while at same time reaching out to society at large in order to facilitate broader acceptance of sexual minority groups. In 2010 the Festival moved beyond the confines of the Russian North West into other regions across the Russian Federation. Four three-day film festivals take place throughout the year in various locations stretching as far as Siberia.
