Association Tunisienne des Femmes Democrates

Founded in 1989, the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women (ATFD) aims to empower women to fully enjoy their human rights, fight all forms of discrimination against women, and promote gender equality. As one of the oldest feminist organisations in Tunisia, ATFD has been raising awareness of women’s issues for three decades. It opened its first counselling centre for women victims of violence in 1993, the first of its type in Tunisia. ATFD is active in advocating for legislative reform in relation to women’s rights, including the drafting of a comprehensive law on violence against women approved by the Tunisian parliament in 2017.
