Bulgarian Fund for Women

Established in 2004, the Bulgarian Fund for Women (BFW) is a local grant-making organisation which provides direct funding and capacity building to women’s rights NGOs, groups and activists in Bulgaria. It aims to achieve gender equality, eradicate gender-based violence and discrimination, and mobilise resources to develop a strong and diverse women’s movement in the country. The Fund was created with the support of the Global Fund for Women and Mama Cash to meet the needs of women’s organisations and advance women’s rights in Bulgaria. Since its inception, BFW has raised approximately £765,000 and supported more than 250 projects benefiting some of the most marginalised groups in the country, including Roma women and girls, LGBTIQ+ people, refugees and migrants, and women living with disabilities.
