Labrys is a small community-based LGBTIQ group in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. It offers a safe space for the Kyrgyz LGBTIQ communities as well as providing services and working on lobbying and advocacy nationally and internationally. Its work includes lobbying for establishment of an official gender change procedure in partnership with the Ministry of Health; raising awareness of healthcare providers about the health needs of LGBTIQ communities; working with police on the protection of needs of LGBTIQ people; and awareness-raising among journalists about LGBTIQ issues. Since 2011 Labrys has also started working on developing capacities and sharing its knowledge and resources with LGBTIQ initiative groups in Central Asia.
