Land is Life

Land is Life was established in 1992, during the World Conference of Indigenous Peoples on Territories, Environment and Development to support the rights of Indigenous people around the world. Their mission is to secure the recognition of Indigenous peoples’ rights globally. All of their programs are designed by Indigenous peoples themselves. Their approach is rooted in collaboration and trust, recognizing that those who live at the grassroots should take the lead in determining solutions. It is most active in Latin America, but has worked extensively in the Arctic, Africa and Southeast Asia. Land is Life first launched a small grants programme in 2015 and its African Indigenous-Led Security Fund was set up in 2019, following a consultation in Kenya that identified the need to increase local capacity to counter immediate security threats. The fund focuses on support for legal assistance, medical assistance, relocation, and improving physical or digital security.
