The Sigrid Rausing Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of Clare Algar as Chief Executive. In this new position Clare will work with trustees to guide the growth of the Trust over the next ten years. She will work closely with Duncan Wilson, who continues as Executive Director, overseeing the Trust’s programmatic work and grant-making. Clare’s arrival also allows Duncan to work part-time.

Clare trained and practised as a lawyer, and was previously Senior Director for Research, Advocacy and Policy at the International Secretariat of Amnesty International; Global Operations Director at Amnesty and Executive Director of Reprieve.

Sigrid Rausing said ‘I am excited about this appointment. Clare Algar brings significant experience in working on human rights, and she also brings vision and strong management experience.

I would also like to thank Duncan for his work to date as Executive Director. With his support we have strengthened our management, our governance and our grant-making, and revised a number of our thematic programmes.’

Clare Algar said: “I am thrilled to be joining the Sigrid Rausing Trust in this role. I have known and admired the Trust for many years and am excited to be working with management and trustees to plan the next decade of the Trust’s work. I am also hugely looking forward to having conversations with the Trust’s grantees when I start next month.”

Duncan Wilson said: “I warmly welcome Clare to the Trust. She comes with a strong reputation for collaboration and strategic vision, which will be invaluable as we look ahead to the coming decade. On a personal level I am also very grateful to Sigrid Rausing and the Board of Trustees for enabling me to continue as Executive Director, on a part time basis.”

Clare will begin work in early January 2022.
