TIFO and EHPMI toxic sites project
Established in 2013, TerraGraphics International Foundation (TIFO) works with local communities and authorities to assesses and address sites contaminated by artisanal mining and recycling, industrial operations, and legacy industries in low and middle-income countries. TIFO prioritizes supporting local actors in countries around the world to develop and implement programs that reduce the human health impacts of pollution, as well as working with humanitarian organizations to assist communities on the frontlines of environmental health crises.
TIFO is collaborating with the Environmental Health and Pollution Management Institute (EHPMI). EHPMI is a membership organisation founded in Georgia in 2022, which aims to bring together leading experts in environmental health to tackle the region’s challenges with acute toxic contamination from persistent organic pollutants, highly hazardous pesticides and heavy metals. Its network of members includes expert environmental scientists, medical professionals and local non-profits operating in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Mongolia.
