We also run a series of strategic initiatives addressing specific problems or opportunities.
Combatting Homophobic Laws
This Strategic Initiative supports meaningful change in two key areas: the decriminalisation of same-sex relationships; and the countering of anti-LGBTI propaganda laws.
The grantees within this initiative work on legislative change through advocacy, legal representation and support, and engagement with international mechanisms. In some contexts, we also support arts-based strategies that help shift public narratives building support for change.
Community Cohesion in the UK
This Strategic Initiative targets violence and extremism, promoting local UK communities based on trust, hope and reciprocity.
Our grantees address social polarisation, deprivation, and community decline by reducing extremism and fostering greater cohesion and belonging. They do this through community regeneration and by expanding the participation of marginalised groups in local decision-making.
Reparations for Victims of Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine
This Strategic Initiative aims to advance access to restitutions for Ukrainian survivors and to strengthen the recognition and protection of their rights.
Participating grantees focus on supporting access to urgent reparations for survivors of conflict-related violence (including sexual violence), and advocating for policy and legal reforms to increase the financial accountability of perpetrators, including the use of seized assets for reparative purposes. These efforts include coordinated advocacy in Ukraine and at the international level, technical support, litigation, and campaigning.
More information will be shared on these initiatives as they evolve.
