Reporters without Borders

Reporters Without Borders defends press freedom by defending journalists and media assistants imprisoned or persecuted for doing their job, and, in that context, exposing mistreatment and torture. They fight censorship and laws that undermine press freedom, and give financial aid each year to 100 or so journalists or media outlets in difficulty, as well to the families of imprisoned journalists or bloggers. They also work to improve the safety of journalists, especially those reporting in zones of conflict. The SRT grant funds an action plan to defend press freedom in North Africa, the Middle East and Iran.
