Center for Research Transparency and Accountability

The Center for Research, Transparency and Accountability (CRTA), established in 2002, is a leading democracy watchdog in Serbia with a focus on the elections, the media, the Parliament, and civic engagement. CRTA has monitored major elections since 2016, and it challenges abuses of power through the courts, bringing criminal complaints for violations of the electoral process. In 2009, it established the first fact-checking portal in the Western Balkans region and the organisation has since played a major role in evidencing information manipulation and the lack of media pluralism in Serbia. Additionally, through its “Citizens Have the Power” programme, CRTA supports grassroot activism and advocacy, helping local initiatives push for accountable and transparent decision making on issues of public importance. It provides legal and expert advice, as well as capacity building and funding.
