Grantee profile
FIRE, with fiscal sponsor Investigative Reporters & Editors, Inc.
Founded in 2007 as Project Word, FIRE (Freelance Investigative Reporters and Editors) is a US-based organisation that acts as a development agency for freelance investigative journalists. The initiative, which is fiscally sponsored by Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE), offers a range of research assistance, reporting tools, training, and legal services. FIRE also provides non-contract-related legal services, including pre-publication legal review and open-records appeals. FIRE does not itself publish or release stories in any way; neither does it assign or commission stories. Through its two main programmes, the FIRE Consultancy and its Virtual Newsroom, FIRE instead offers practical, bespoke consultations and tools for story development and placement.
