Homes not Borders

Homes Not Borders (HNB), originally an offshoot of the National Community Church’s Refugee Care Ministry, became an independent charity in 2019. The group makes agency-sourced housing into homes for newly arrived refugees by equipping them with furniture, housewares, soft furnishings, school supplies and toys. In a typical year, HNB helps kit out roughly 360 apartments for families, easing their adjustment and integration into the cities and neighbourhoods in which they will be based. It also operates a refugee befriending circle, Newcomers to Neighbours, and an economic and artistic empowerment initiative, Income through the Arts. HNB also operates a microgrant scheme that offers flexible cash support, enabling newly arrived families to pursue skills training.
