Independent Medico-Legal Unit
The Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) is a non-governmental human rights and governance organisation based in Nairobi, Kenya. Its vision is ‘A Just World Free from Torture’. Since its inception in 1992, IMLU has supported over 4,000 victims of torture. In addressing torture and related human rights violations, IMLU employs a holistic approach involving advocacy, monitoring government adherence to human rights, litigation, and medical and psychosocial rehabilitation of torture survivors. IMLU further documents the effects of torture through forensic medical reports which support legal redress for cases of torture.
