NGO Coalition Against Torture Kazakhstan

The Kazakh NGO Coalition against Torture (the Coalition) was established in 2011. The Coalition is made up of 52 members, of which 33 are NGOs across the country and 19 are independent experts, including lawyers, doctors and academics. Together Coalition members work in monitoring places of detention, documenting and denouncing torture cases, providing legal aid, advocating for reforms, providing training to state officials and offering rehabilitation to survivors of torture. Oversight of the Coalition remains with Trust grantee the Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights, administered by its deputy director Roza Akylbekova.
