Sexual Minorities Uganda

Founded in 2004, Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) is one of Uganda’s leading LGBTI rights organisations, working to advance the rights, safety and wellbeing of LGBTI people. It provides legal and emergency support, documents human rights abuses, undertakes strategic litigation, advocates for legal and policy reform, and conducts research and public education to challenge discrimination and promote equality. Following the enactment of Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act in 2023, SMUG has played a leading role in supporting affected communities and advocating nationally and internationally for the protection of LGBTI rights.
