Surviving Economic Abuse
Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA) was founded in 2017 to ensure this form of domestic abuse is widely understood, addressed and prevented. Specialist and expert-led, SEA works closely with the financial services sector (UK Finance, Financial Conduct Authority, Financial Ombudsman Service) and government (Home Office, HM Treasury, Ministry of Justice) to push for system-wide awareness and change. The group’s landmark achievement to date was the adoption of the Domestic Abuse Act into law in 2021. The group has since guided the law’s implementation, supporting and training the personnel of more than twenty banks and building societies – including the four market leaders – in how best to spot and respond to customers experiencing economic abuse.
