Center for Cultural Decontamination CZKD

The Center for Cultural Decontamination (CZKD) is a non-profit cultural institution in Belgrade, centred on critical thinking. Established in 1994, during the Balkan wars, the organisation holds that culture, art and public speech are a valid means to challenge nationalism, xenophobia, and any kind of violence. Based at the Pavilion Veljković, built as the first private museum in Belgrade in 1931, their space includes a theatre, flexibly arranged to allow for a range of performance layouts, a library, a smaller room for talks, discussions, book launches or roundtables, arranged around a leafy courtyard. Since their foundation, CZKD has organised several thousand events: plays, performances, exhibitions, concerts, public discussions, film screenings, workshops, seminars, conferences, lectures and complex performance experiments. They also act as a host venue for producers and others who are unable to find a home for their work in the politically contested space of Belgrade.
