Instituto Terra, Trabalho e Cidadania (ITTC)

Instituto Terra, Trabalho e Cidadania (Land, Labor and Citizenship Institute) was founded in 1997 in order to combat inequalities and ensure human rights in Brazil. Its trajectory has led its members to work in prisons and in particular in womens’ prisons. With headquarters in São Paulo, it has developed a reputation as being one of the few organisations working for the benefit and protection of the rights of foreign women in detention. It also conducts research and campaigns for alternative sentences, prison reform and on issues relating to drugs and gender in the prison system.
