Kenya Legal & Ethical Issues Network on HIV and AIDS (KELIN)

Formed in 1994 and registered in 2001 as an NGO, the Kenya Legal & Ethical Issues Network on HIV and AIDS (KELIN) advocates for the promotion and protection of health-related human rights for all. KELIN recognises the fundamental connection between HIV/ AIDS, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and women’s land rights. The organisation’s Sexual and Reproductive Rights pillar advocates for laws and policies that protect and fulfill sexual and reproductive rights at the county, national and regional levels, delivers strategic litigation, strengthens the capacities of community-based organisations (CBOs), and provides legal support for medical providers and women affected by penal provisions on abortion. KELIN hosts the Legal Support Network, a network of lawyers providing pro-bono support for audits of clinics to ensure adherence to the constitutional provisions on abortion, trains health providers on the legal and policy frameworks, and provides legal defence. The Women’s Land and Property Rights advocates for laws and policies that uphold women’s rights, supports women’s access to justice, trains chiefs and elders on the law, strengthens the capacities of CBOs, and sensitizes communities on harmful social norms.
