Mesoamerican Initiative for Women Human Rights Defenders

Founded in 2010, the Mesoamerican Initiative of Women Human Rights Defenders is a collective of more than 2250 activists and 300 organizations representing diverse social movements and territories that have come together to develop a regional, holistic and culturally sensitive response to violence against women in Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. The Initiative documents, denounces and gives visibility to violence against women human rights defenders whilst building their capacity to protect themselves from this violence. It follows the principle of Feminist Holistic Protection which puts the basic principle of care – for one’s own self and for the collective – at the heart of activism.
