Royal College of Art

The Royal College of Art has consistently led world rankings for universities of Art and Design, and is a global organisation whose approach is founded on the premise that art, design, creative thinking, science, engineering and technology must all collaborate to solve societies challenges. The Sigrid Rausing Trust’s one-off gift will enable the internationally renowned art and design university to support the collaboration of the creative arts, computer science, materials science and robotics to address a range of global challenges, including migration and rapid urbanisation; health and social care for ageing populations, and the social and economic implications of artificial intelligence. In particular, the new Battersea campus will host new research centres in Material Science and Computer Science, alongside its recently launched Intelligent Mobility Design Centre and the long established Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design. It will also host two new knowledge exchange laboratories: one in 2D/3D visualisation and immersive technologies and another in advanced modelling and manufacturing processes. The knowledge generated will feed into ten new Master’s programmes, to be launched over the next decade.
