Association for Legal Studies on Immigration (ASGI)

ASGI was founded in 1990 as a group of lawyers and academics working across Italy on matters of immigration, statelessness, asylum, citizenship and discrimination. Their activities include: advocacy for legislative and policy amendments before Italian and European members of parliament; provision of legal advice and strategic litigation in Italian domestic courts, European and African regional human rights courts; comparative analysis of European migration policies and practices in countries bordering Europe reconnaissance missions to hotspots at Taranto, Sicily, especially in Lamepedusa, and to European border areas (Sudan, Tunisia, Gambia, Niger) and a specialised anti-discrimination service based in eight cities which offers legal advice, representation, moral suasion and litigation on hate crimes and instances of unequal treatment. They now have over 400 members and local sections in 15 Italian regions and members of the association are active throughout Italy
