Association for Nature, Environment and Sustainable Development – Sunce

Founded in Split in 1998, the Association for Nature, Environment and Sustainable Development, or Sunce, is a science-based organisation that seeks to safeguard Croatia’s biodiversity and strengthen people’s connection with the natural world. It works through two main programmes: Nature Conservation, and Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, with crosscutting education and legal departments. While it operates nationally, Sunce has a particular interest in the Dalmatian region and on marine and coastal ecosystems. Key activities include ecological research and monitoring; environmental education and public engagement; law and policy advocacy; and protected area designation and management. The fostering of public participation on environmental issues is a common thread throughout its work.
