Legal and Policy Coordinating Committee on Mining

The Legal and Policy Coordinating Committee on Mining (LPCCM) was set up in 2009 in response to the human rights abuses associated with mining (particularly platinum mining) in South Africa’s Limpopo Province. Thousands of people have lost their agricultural land and their access to clean water as a result of the operations of mining companies. The LPCCM brings together NGOs, community activists, legal professionals and academics in order to coordinate support for the affected communities and develop a coherent and strategic response.
