Literature Works

Founded in 2009, Literature Works is the writer development agency for the Southwest, based on Plymouth University’s campus. From there, the agency’s small team advocates for the region’s literary sector in all its contexts and facilitates the use of literature in socially engaged ways to develop communities and support wellbeing. The funded project, “Recovery Writing,” will deploy talented writers to lead writing workshops in the region’s most deprived urban centres: Exeter, Plymouth and Torbay. Through the creative writing workshops, participants will address a range of hardships, from substance and domestic abuse to mental health difficulties arising from social isolation and precarious housing.
