NNLS Destitute Asylum Seekers Drop In

The NNLS Destitute Asylum Seekers Drop In was set up in 2008 as a pastoral project of the New North London Synagogue. In 2018 it registered as an independent charity and continues to work closely with the Synagogue.  On the first Sunday of every month, the Drop-In welcomes around half of its 580 clients, who come from more than 50 countries; in addition, it looks to accept new asylum seekers as clients living in the north London area.  The Drop In provides clients with a range of support. This includes a £40 supermarket voucher, £10 travel money, toiletries, sanitary products, clothing, meals, consultations with lawyers, doctors and therapists. It has a children’s play area with toys and craft activities. Volunteer doctors help apply for HC1 and HC2 certificates to enable clients to receive free medical care and prescriptions and signpost them to other resources. Volunteer lawyers also work between sessions to help support clients in finding good legal aid immigration lawyers for those without solicitors.
