Sunbula
Sunbula, which means wheat sheaf (a symbol of transformation) in Arabic, is a fair trade organization based in East Jerusalem that supports the economic empowerment of Palestinian and Bedouin women, and combats isolation of marginalized communities across the Palestinian territories as well as the Palestinian community in Israel. Originating from St Andrew’s Church in Jerusalem, Sunbula is now an independent organization which supports multi-faith and multi-ethnic groups. Sunbula develops new handicrafts groups by identifying a unique product range or technique for each group’s signature offering, and supporting the product from conception to launch, paying producers in full for products sold. This model won the Second place Arab Gulf Programme for Development Prize in 2014.
