First Story

First Story is a UK charity founded in 2008 in London that aims to address inequality in access to cultural and creative education by giving young people from disadvantaged backgrounds opportunities to develop and share their voices through writing. It partners with state secondary schools serving low-income communities, placing professional writers in residence to run year-long extracurricular creative writing programmes for small groups of students. The organisation also provides teacher support, publishes students’ writing in printed anthologies, and offers enrichment opportunities such as workshops, events and performances that help build students’ writing skills, confidence and engagement with literature.
