Established in 1999, Mining Watch Canada (MWC) is a network of 18 Canadian environmental, social justice, Aboriginal and labour groups concerned with the impact of irresponsible mining policies and practices of Canadian companies within the country as well as internationally. It aims to ensure that mining practices are consistent with sustainable development objectives. MWC’s remit includes providing strategic advice and technical expertise to mine-affected communities in the South. They monitor the activities of mining companies, government agencies and industry associations, conduct research and analysis, and undertake legal action on issues of strategic importance.
