Panoptykon Foundation

Established in 2009, the Panoptykon Foundation seeks to defend the right to privacy and internet freedom against the threat posed by the use of mass surveillance technologies in Poland. Its work focuses on challenges posed by the large-scale gathering of data by public authorities and private companies as well as their use of profiling and algorithmic decision-making. Panoptykon monitors laws that could be used to restrict human rights (such as privacy and free expression online) and responds with legal interventions and ongoing advocacy. Apart from its watchdog activity, the organisation runs educational programmes in digital security and offers its support to vulnerable groups such as activists and journalists in Poland.
