SOVLAB – Soviet Past Research Laboratory

SOVLAB, (Soviet Past Research Laboratory), was established in 2010 by a group of historians, journalists, researchers and civil society activists with the mission to support a critical analysis of Georgia’s past including the Soviet system and its implications on current social structures, beliefs, institutions and state of democracy. The organization has engaged in historical research publishing books (for instance on specific aspects of the Soviet period or focusing on ‘repressed memories’ including on the experience of ordinary people), produced documentaries and supported public outreach activities such as conferences, public debates, exhibitions (digital and physical) as well as guided tours of Tbilisi and other cities. More recently, Sovlab started co-organizing a school competition.
