Utah Dine Bikeyah
Utah Dine Bikeyah (UDB) is a non-profit organisation supporting indigenous communities in the state of Utah, USA, to protect the culturally significant ancestral lands of Native American Tribes. Founded in 2012 to protect the ancestral lands of Bears’ Ears, a 2,000 square mile area in Utah, an inter-tribal coalition was formed with the five tribes of Bears’ Ears: Navajo, Hopi, Zuni, Ute Mountain Ute, and Uintah Ouray Ute. UDB engages in a number of activities alongside campaigning, policy analysis, and education, including traditional ecological knowledge research and mapping, and Native American community organising. UDB integrates arts and cultural activity into all areas of their work, including running an artist-in-residence programme since 2016, and have developed a mobile mural project which supports engagement with museums in major cities, such as the Smithsonian and Princeton University Art Museum.
