Maha Abushama

Programme Manager for Human Rights

    Maha Abushama is a Programme Manager for Human Rights, with a special focus on the Defending Civic Space. She came to the Trust from Amnesty International, where she worked for seven years as the Campaigner on Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. Maha is experienced in monitoring, documenting and reporting human rights violations against communities and individuals within repressive contexts including armed conflicts. She also contributed to the design and implementation of global campaigns and advocacy strategies to address these human rights violations. Previously she was a Senior External Relations Officer at the Palestinian NGO the Youth Development Association, and an External Relations Officer for the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committees (PARC), where she fundraised and advocated for sustainable development.

    She holds an MA in Human Rights Theory and Practice from the University of Essex and a BA in English Literature and Translation from Birzeit University, Palestine.
