Egna Legna

Founded in 2017, Egna Legna Besidet supports Ethiopian migrant women domestic workers’ rights in Lebanon, including in the areas of ending violence against women and sexual and reproductive health and rights. The organisation is led and largely staffed by current and former Ethiopian women domestic workers. The organisation’s activities include direct assistance to migrant domestic workers, delivering workshops for migrant domestic workers on their sexual and reproductive rights and violence against women; and producing educational videos in Amharic. Egna Legna supports migrant domestic workers to access justice in cases of physical and sexual abuse and it advocates and campaigns for an end to the kafala system and for justice for migrant domestic workers. The organisation also works in Ethiopia conducting advocacy and raising awareness of the abusive kafala system and supporting returnees through vocational training.
