Environment People Law

Established in 1994, Environment People Law (EPL) is an organization that fights for environmental justice and improved environmental governance in Ukraine, which has the worst air quality  in Europe, due in large part to coal power plant emissions, contributing to over 30,000 deaths annually. EPL employs legal and policy analysis, strengthens civil society capacity to protect environmental rights, advocates against corruption, provides education and awareness building for citizens lawyers and members of the judiciary and other activities. The organisation also provides environmental defenders with training, legal advice and legal support. EPL has been a leader in drafting and lobbying for environmental laws and has won over 200 cases in national courts against states in businesses for violations of environmental law.
