International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims

The International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT) is an international health professional organisation that promotes and supports the rehabilitation of torture victims, and works for the prevention of torture through memberships currently standing at 136 rehabilitation centres in 71 countries. The grant supported direct financial support to torture rehabilitation centres in low-income countries, and a project to increase contributions towards the UN Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture through advocacy directed at OECD governments and multilateral donors.

Awarded an additional emergency grant of £160,000 in March 2022 in response to the crisis in Ukraine. The grant will assist their work with national groups in Hungary, Moldova, Romania and Poland to step up and sustain their provision of psychosocial and medical support, humanitarian assistance, and care for care-givers. It will also support some remote provision directly by IRCT.
