People in Need

Founded in 1992, People in Need aims to inspire and mobilise the Czech post-communist society to provide aid for people in conflicts, poverty or natural disasters and to assist those who are still striving to achieve freedom and democracy. SRT’s current grant supports their Centre for Democracy and Human Rights, which provides emergency assistance (putting strong emphasis on psychosocial support) and capacity-building support to human rights defenders, activists, journalists and lawyers, and conducts international and regional advocacy in support of defenders, journalists and civil society groups. The Centre currently works in Central and Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Vietnam.

Awarded an additional emergency grant of £140,000 in March 2022 in response to the crisis in Ukraine.
